Akron DSA Stands In Solidarity with the people of Minneapolis
The Akron chapter Democratic Socialists of America stands in solidarity with the Minneapolis community and the friends and family of George Floyd in condemning the public execution of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police.
After decades of peaceful protests and civil actions, the courts, the politicians, the media, civic leaders and administrators have all failed to make substantive changes to the current discriminatory structures of power. The centuries of power imbalances and discrimination in economic, civil, governmental, and law enforcement spheres can no longer be tolerated. People are rising up and making their voices heard against the racist and violent policing that permeates law enforcement in this country.
Racism in the United States is not a problem that will go away quietly.
The established systems will continue to go to great lengths to protect and maintain their authority and the power imbalance. We must continue to work and fight against the established, racist power structures and work towards a future that works for all.
