Akron DSA Statement Condemning Harassment & Misogyny
DSA is a socialist feminist organization. We organize people of all genders to fight against systems of oppression and exploitation including patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy.
Misogyny, transmisogyny, sexual harassment, and rape are unacceptable in our organizing spaces and community. DSA stands with those who have been on the receiving end of these often gendered forms of harm.
We recognize that, sadly, these issues can occur in any organization. Both our local chapter and national DSA take these concerns seriously, and we have structures and processes for dealing with these behaviors should they arise. We seek to create an environment that supports everyone in the multiracial working class.
Akron DSA remains intentionally committed to creating spaces that are safe for everyone — especially those disproportionately marginalized by capitalism. Proactively creating structures to address these situations often serves as a deterrent or creates intervention points before serious damage is done. We continually seek to improve our code of conduct and grievance process. To be clear, we are not currently aware of any such incidences within our chapter at this time; more information is available on our website: https://www.akrondsa.org/grievance/
